Dr. Chalkin came very highly recommended to me by several people when I tore my tricep tendon. After meeting him and liking him I allowed him to do my surgery. Except for a screw up on their end of the scheduling of the surgery everything seemed to go well until a couple of weeks after the surgery. I had clearly started to develop an infection. His P.A. sent me home with a prescription for an antibiotic. The infection started getting worse and again his P.A. sent me home with a different antibiotic and told me to come back in 2 weeks. I was a little surprised by her decision for me to wait 2 weeks. I asked her when do I see the Dr. and she told me they did things differently there. If I wanted to see him I needed to ask for him, which I did at that time. I have had quite a few surgeries over the years and I told her that I had never had a surgeon not check on me, at least for moment, post op. Anyways, she set an appointment for 2 weeks later to see him. Well, the infection got worse and I called the office and told them I was having problems and needed to get in to see Dr. Chalkin immediately and was told he was completely booked for the week and that I could see his P.A.. At this point I knew I needed to see another doctor. That doctor immediately ordered surgery for the next day because I was very infected. I showed him pictures I had taken of the progress of the infection and he seemed very concerned that Dr. Chalkin's P.A. did not see what was going on and ask Dr. Chalkin to come look at it. Turns out it was MRSA and Staph. I wrote a letter to Dr. Chalkin and informed him of what happened. I never received a follow up letter or even a phone call from him. Needless to say I was very unimpressed with his post operative care. I didn't want to write a bad review. I guess I held out hope that Dr. Chalkin would care enough to get in touch with me to find out what happened or at least to say he was sorry for my experience. I finally realized that wasn't going to happen so I decided to write this to at least help people be informed when they are trying to make a decision.
Dr. Chalkin has been a great doctor. He's been very helpful and professional every time that I have seen him. The only reason I gave 3 stars was because of the wait time in his office, although times have varied I usually wait between 30 mins to over an hour (depending). I didn't have any issues post o.o and when something came up,he was sure answer any questions or concerns I had. I would recommend him.
Dr. Chalkin Saved my husbands hand !!! We drove from central Arkansas to have him save my husband and I am proud to say my husband has full use of his hand. His hand also looks fantastic you can hardly tell he almost sawed his entire hand and all his fingers. Than you Dr. Chalkin!!!
Had shoulder problems which ended in surgery. Throughout the consultations, the Doctor and his staff were understanding, patient with me and my questions and careful to let me know my alternatives and pros and cons of each without trying to make the decision for me. Very happy with process and result.
Dr. Chalkin did surgery on my son's hand treated my husband for tennis elbow and is currently treating me for my shoulder and hand. He knows his stuff and is an excellent doctor. He has a wonderful bedside manner and is a caring and kind doctor. I noticed a few reviews of people complaining about the wait time and as far as I'm concerned he is the best hand surgeon in Oklahoma waiting means he's a great doctor and very busy. His time is valuable and I will wait as long as I need to in order to see him. I literally would set a plate for him at my dinner table that's how much I like him. And I don't invite anyone to dinner! Dr. Chalkin is now family! Thank you Doc for the great care you have given me and my family! God Bless you always!
